Nefertiti was the Royal Wife of the Pharaoh Akhenaten. She was also the mother-in-law (and probably stepmother) of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Her Name translates to 'the beautiful (or perfect) one has arrived'. She also shares the name with a type of elongated gold bead (nefer), which she was often portrayed while wearing. She has many titles- inscriptions at Karnak read 'Heiress', 'Exuding Happiness', 'Great of Favours', 'Possessed of Charm', 'Beloved One', 'Great King's Wife', and 'Mistress of Upper and Lower Egypt'. Nefertiti and her husband were known for changing Egypt to a monotheistic religion, with sole belief in the god Aten. She was also famous throughout Egypt for her beauty.

Nefertiti was made famous by the 'Bust of Nefertiti' statue, which is now on display in Altes Museum, Berlin. The Bust of Nefertiti was attributed to the sculptor Thutmose, being found in his workshop. The bust itself is particularly notable in that it exemplifies the understanding that Ancient Egyptians had for realistically portraying facial proportions.
