Eye Of Horus
Horus was not only a god of the sky but the embodiment of divine kingship and protector of the reigning pharaoh. After Osiris –father of hours- was murdered by his jealous brother Seth, Horus fought with Seth to avenge for his father’s death. In this battle, Horus lost one of his eyes. The eye was magically restored to him. The restored eye of Horus became the symbol for the state of soundness or perfection, known as the Udjat Eye. Used as an amulet, it became the symbol for protection and painted on the sides of rectangular coffins. The Udjat Eye of Horus is painted on the papyrus. On the right of the painting, is the cobra, the symbol of Lower Egypt. On the left is the vulture Nekhbet, which is the symbol of Upper Egypt. It’s holding the shen ring, a concept of eternity because of its never-ending circle.
